Questions worth asking before you sign
- Is the plan based on an elevation survey, and can I have a copy of the readings?
- How many piers, of what type, where, and how deep? Why that number?
- Who pulls the city permit, and who provides the engineer's letter and final report if the city requires them?
- What does the warranty cover, for how long, and does it transfer to a buyer? Is there a fee?
- Will the plumbing be tested before and after the lift, and by whom?
- What happens to landscaping, flatwork and interior cracks after the lift, and who pays to fix them?
- Get the full price, payment schedule and start date in writing before you sign, and compare at least two plans.

Scheduling questions
Who comes out to inspect?
A local foundation contractor who serves your area. They confirm the time, inspect the house, and explain what they find.
Who sets the price?
The contractor does, in a written plan, before any work starts. The cost pages on this site give typical published ranges so you can tell whether a quote is in the normal range.
Should I get a second opinion?
For a large repair, yes. Compare at least two written plans, or hire a licensed professional engineer who doesn't sell repairs to evaluate the house.
What should I have ready?
Photos of the cracks with something for scale, a list of doors or windows that stick, the year the house was built, and any paperwork from past repairs.
